Many of my students had not video conferenced before this experience and only two of my students have been to the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. It was an extremely successful session where students were able to continue their music analysis of the turbulent 60s and 70s and relay historical events to the music of the time period. Different styles of music were analyzed and student participation was tremendous. Our presenter was enthusiastic about her job and relayed pertinent video clips and music lyrics. All in all this was an awesome presentation!

Hempfield students thoroughly enjoyed participating in this event. We had a post-conference talk back. A summary of their comments:

The conference was both challenging and informative.

They offered some suggestions: First, have the speaker/demonstrator wear a mic rather than relying on an external mic. Students would then be able to hear when the demonstrator turns around or when the music is playing. Secondly, perhaps do this with two schools to permit more interaction. Thank you for permitting us to participate in this new long-distance way of accessing professional dancers.

Dear Mr. Fan and students,
Thank-you for video conferencing with us. We learned a lot of new things and here are some of them. Singing Happy Birthday was difficult. It was fun to do the exercises. It sounds hard to speak Chinese but we might try it at Hempfield High School. We were glad we got the opportunity to do this video conference with you!
Sincerely,
MES students and Mrs. Little

Mr. Fan and students,
Thank-you for taking the time to talk to us and teach us about the Chinese culture. We thought it was interesting to communicate through video. The Happy Birthday song was challenging, but entertaining. The exercises were confusing! The instrument that Mr. Fan played had an interesting sound. The yoyo was neat and how they did tricks, that was cool. We really enjoyed learning about the culture and thank-you for the fortune cookies, they were really good!
Thanks,
Mrs. Little & CES grade 6 Special Interest students
